HARTNESS STATE AIRPORT Hartness State Airport (VSF),
established in 1920,
was the first airport in the State of Vermont and is the second largest
airport in Vermont. It is located three miles northwest of the Town of
Springfield. It has an elevation of 577 feet and is served by two paved and
lighted runways. Runway 5/23 is 5,498 feet long and 100 feet wide while
11/29 is 3,000 feet long and 75 feet wide.
The airport has four instrument approaches. LOC/DME, LOC, NDB and GPS all
service runway 5. It has a remove communications outlet with Burlington
Flight Service Station, is equipped with VASI lights and has Automated
Surface Observation System (ASOS) from the National Weather Service.
The Fixed Base Operation is Crown Point Aviation, Inc. (802-886-8594), which
offers major and minor repair service, 100 octane and jet fuel, charter
service, flight instruction and scenic airplane rides. The New England
Soaring Association is an active glider club which operates out of the
airport.
Tie downs and a heated storage hangar are available for all types of
transient aircraft has WSI weather service and flight planning.
Hartness State Airport has also hosted Springfield's 4th of July
Celebrations the past few years.
Hartness State Airport is a great facility for private and corporate planes,
with close proximity to ten area ski resorts with lodging and restaurant
facilities in Springfield.
