Open registration for youth baseball and softball will be held in the Parks and
Recreation office at the Community Center Monday, March 1st -Friday, March 5th
and the week of Monday, March 8th -Friday, March 12th from 8AM-6PM on those
dates. March 12th will be the registration deadline for these programs. PLEASE
help us plan our programs by enrolling your child during this 2 week period.
There will be a $5.00 late fee for any sign-ups after March 12th.
Uniform Cost: There will be a non-refundable charge for a uniform or T-shirt.
Grades
K-2 will receive a T-shirt for a $10.00 fee. K-2 can also purchase pants for an
extra $10.00.
Grades 3-6 will receive pants, shirt, hat, and socks for a $30.00 fee. You may
also buy the
uniform without the pants for $20.00 if you already have pants.
Baseball & Softball Registration for Grades K-6
KINDERGARTEN TEE-BALL: This program is open to kindergarten age children
who are 5 years old by March 31st. Practices and games are held at Riverside
and the Commons one or two nights a week. All parents will assist in running
this program. T-shirt pickup night is Thursday, April 8th from 6:00-7:00 PM at
the Community Center. You must register your child on one of the previously
listed registration dates.
ROOKIE LEAGUE BASEBALL: This program is for boys and girls in 1st &
2nd grade. Practices and games are held at Riverside and the Commons one or two
nights a week. T-shirt pickup night is Thursday, April 8th from 6:00–7:00 PM at
the Community Center. You must register your child on one of the previously
listed registration dates to participate in this program.
3rd & 4th GRADE BASEBALL: Open to boys in 3rd & 4th grade. This is
now part of the Cal Ripken League and there
will be games versus other towns. Uniform pickup night is Tuesday, April 6th
from 6:00-7:00 PM at the Community Center.
5th & 6th GRADE BASEBALL: Open to boys in 5th & 6th grade. This is
now part of the Cal Ripken League and there will be game versus other towns.

7th GRADE BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: Signups are held at Riverside Middle School
for these teams and will be announced soon. Listen to school announcements for
date and time. Team structure will depend upon the number of participants.
BABE RUTH BASEBALL: Springfield will again field a Babe Ruth baseball
team for boys ages 13-15. Sign-up will be soon and will be announced at
Riverside Middle School and Springfield High School. For more information
please call The Parks and Recreation Department to register.
3rd & 4th GRADE SOFTBALL: This program is for girls in 3rd & 4th
grade. They generally meet twice a week with some games against other towns.
One or more teams may be formed depending upon the number of participants.
Uniform pickup night is Wednesday, April 7th from 6:00-7:00 PM at the Community
Center.
5th & 6th GRADE SOFTBALL: Open to all girls in 5th & 6th grade.
They generally meet two or three times a week, with games against other towns.

Community Center.
K.I.D.S: Kids In Different Sports will be on Wednesday nights from
5:30-6:30 PM at Park St. School starting on March 10th and concluding on March
31st. They will play a variety of sports which include basketball, soccer, and
baseball. The fee for this program is $10 with a maximum number so please call
The Parks and Recreation Department to register.
AFTER SCHOOL OPEN GYM HOURS: After school open gym hours will continue Monday
through Friday until 5:00 PM through the month of March. This includes gym use
and game room use.
K-2nd GRADE PRE-SEASON BASEBALL CLINIC: We will be running a baseball
skills clinic for K-2nd grade players. We will do T work, soft toss, throwing,
& defense. This will be over April Vacation on Tuesday the 20th and Thurs.

includes a t-shirt.
SWING INTO SPRING BASEBALL & SOFTBALL CLINICS: Varsity coaches Larry
Partridge and Andy Bladykaas well as players will run separate baseball and
softball clinics for hitting, fielding, and pitching skills over April Vacation
on Monday 19th, Wednesday 21st, and Friday the 23rd from 10AM-12PM at Riverside
Park for players in grades 3rd-6th. It will be $40 for the 3 days and the
registration deadline is Wednesday, April 14th. Please call The Parks and
Recreation Department to register. All participants will receive a t-shirt and
pizza on the last day!!
Youth
Soccer
This program is open to boys and girls in grades K-4 and is held on Saturday
morning at Riverside Middle School. The Kindergarten program will be 9:00 AM -
10:15 AM for four consecutive weeks beginning April 24th and ending on May
15th. Grades 1-4 will be for six weeks from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM beginning on
April 24th and ending on June 5th with no session on May 29th, Memorial Day
Weekend. Just show up the first Saturday to participate in this program. Cost
is $7.00 for Kindergarten kids and includes a t-shirt. Grades 1 - 4 is $10.00
and includes a t-shirt.
Adult
Programs
MENS BASKETBALL: Men’s basketball will continue at the Community Center through
the spring on Tuesday evenings from 7-9PM for men 18 and older. Thursday
evenings from 7-9PM will be for men 30 and older. Just show up to participate.
This is a free program.
SUMMER CO-ED VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE: Leagues and/or pick-up nights will be forming
for the summer time. Games will take place at Freedom Park. Call Parks and Rec.
for information 885-2727.
LINE DANCING: Instructor Debbie Hays offers different level of line dancing on
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:30PM at the Community
Center. Call Deb at 886-8106 for more information. Soft-soled shoes are
required. There is a fee to participate in this program.
Six Flags/Great Escape/Bromley Tickets
Once again we plan on offering discount tickets to these three amusement parks.
Six Flags is in Agawam, MA the Great Escape is in Lake George, NY. Additional
information will be with the Summer Program. Prices are the same as last year.

5th
Annual Springfield Road Race & Fun Run
We are currently working with
race organizer Joe Cerniglia, business sponsors, and a group of volunteers for
this event. The race will be held Sunday, May 2nd . It will start at Joe’s
Discount on Rt. 106. There will be a 4-mile race and a half-mile fun run for children.
We’re very excited about this event and are looking for volunteers to help out
with all aspects
of the race. Please call the Springfield Parks & Recreation Dept. or check
out www.springfieldroadrace.com. for registration information. There is a fee
to participate with all proceeds going to a different local charity each year.

Summer Camp Preview
**This is a camp preview and all times and dates are subject to change. Please
check the summer brochure for times and dates. Sign-ups will begin on Friday,
April 30th. Please call Parks & Recreation to register or stop by the
office on 139 Main St.
BASKETBALL-BOYS/GIRLS: These camps will be held the weeks of July 12th-16th for
the boys & girls. The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3-8.
The girls camp will be directed by SHS girls varsity coach Brodie Ladue and
assisted by her players. The boys camp will be assisted by SHS boys varsity
coach Pete Peck. Location: To be announced
Boys Grades 3-5: 10AM-12PM Boys Grades 6-8: 1-3PM Girls: 7/12-7/16 Time:
5:30-7:30 PM
TENNIS: There will be two tennis camps again this year. The first will be July
5th-July 9th, and the second will be July 26th-July 30th. SHS varsity coach Kim
Lewis will direct these camps. Sign up early because these camps fill up fast.
Cost is $40.00 for this camp.
6-10 Year Olds: 8:30-10:00AM 11-16 Year Olds: 10:00-11:30AM
GYMNASTICS CAMPS: This camp is held at the Park St. School gym for children
ages 3-6 for the tots program and 7-16 for the older group. It includes
tumbling, apparatus use, and more. Jeff Knapp returns to instruct this very
popular camp which overflows with registrants every year. Please register
early. Ages: 3-6 Time: 9:00-10:30 AM Date: 7/5-7/9 Cost: $50.00 Ages: 7-16
Time: 9:00-11:00 AM Date: 7/12-7/16 Cost: $65.00
DANCE CAMP: Former Springfield High School Dance Team Coach Kyla Beardsley
directs this dance camp. This camp will run from July 19th-July 23rd. It will
be held in the Park St. School Gymnasium. This camp will concentrate on hip-hop
dance with a performance on the last day.

OKINAWAN KARATE ACADEMY: We again plan to offer a karate camp this summer at
the Park St. School gymnasium. This camp is scheduled for the week of July
26th-July 30th. Licensed instructor, 7th degree black belt, Ken Bladyka, and
brother of Andy, Parks & Rec. Director, will again direct this camp. For

VERMONT VOLTAGE SOCCER: This camp will be held the week of July 5th-July 9th at
the Riverside Middle school fields for boys and girls ages 5-15. Separate forms
will be used for this camp, but are not yet available. Cost is $100 for the
camp. All campers will receive a t-shirt, ball, and free tickets to a Voltage

**We will also offer a second soccer camp the week of Aug. 16th-20th
FIELD HOCKEY: Ruth Haskell will direct this camp open to students in 3rd grade
through High School. Here’s your chance to improve your skills and get ready
for the upcoming season. The camp will be held at the SHS field
hockey field and will be in August. The exact week will be announced in our
Summer Camp brochure. This camp also includes a t-shirt.

WRESTLING CAMP: We will once again run a wrestling camp for those entering
grades 2-6.The will take place from August 2nd-6th at Park St. from 5:30-7:30
PM. The cost will be $50 per child and each
participant will receive a t-shirt.
SPORTS FOR SQUIRTS: This one-week program is designed to introduce 4, 5 & 6
year old boys and girls to the Fundamentals of a variety of sports possibly
including soccer, basketball, baseball, and football. Each day your child will
play a different sport. Let your child experiment in a fun non-competitive
atmosphere. Each participant will receive a T-shirt. This camp will run from
Monday, August 9th-13th. Equipment except for
baseball glove is provided.

SWIM LESSONS: Swim lessons will again be offered this summer at the town pool.
Detailed information will be provided in the summer brochure. We plan on doing
both morning and evening lessons in all levels. We offer
(3) three week sessions and each session is 12 lessons. Springfield residents
are $25/session and non-residents are $35/session. A variety of Red Cross
certified swim level lessons are offered including Infant/Toddler Aquatics,
Stroke Development and Proficiency, and Advanced Skills, as well as others. For

Everyone over 50 is invited to attend with no charge for regular activities
and/or facility use. The Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-4:00PM.
Various programs are offered and include cribbage, shuffleboard, Songsters,
indoor walking, and strength training. Call the Center for more information.
FREE SERVICES: Blood pressure screening is offered free the first Wednesday of
every month from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
SENIOR SPRING ATTIC SALE: For times and dates please call the Senior Center for
more information.
ROADRUNNERS: Various trips are being offered to senior citizens. Center members
get priority, but the trips are open to non-members also. Stop into the center
and pick up a brochure on our trips for the year, or call the center at the
above phone number.
