2010 SUMMER CAMPS

 

ART CAMP DRAWING & PAINTING:  June 28th-July 2nd.   Elm Hill School art teacher Suzanne Farrell will run a one-week drawing and painting class that offers an opportunity to explore a variety of drawing and painting media such as watercolor and acrylic paints, water soluble crayons and pencils, and oil and chalk pastels. Students create paintings, collages and drawings that include, but are not limited to city/landscapes, still-life, animals,and portraiture. Students will have freedom to express their creativity and have fun using their imagination! Art games will be included.  Please wear appropriate clothing for art making.

VERMONT VOLTAGE PRO SOCCER ACADEMY: July 5th-9th.  This camp will be at Riverside Middle School fields for boys and girls ages 5-15.  The cost is $100.00 for the camp.  All campers will receive a t-shirt, ball and free tickets to a Voltage game.  Please visit www.vermontvoltage.com for more information.

 

“TOTS” GYMNASTICS :  July 5th-9th.  This camp is held at the Park St. School gym for children ages 3-6, and includes tumbling, apparatus use, and more. Jeff Knapp returns to instruct this very popular camp which overflows with registrants every year.  Please register early.

Time:  9:00-10:30 AM                           Cost:  $50.00 

 

TENNIS:  July 5th-9th & July 26th-30th.   There will be two tennis camps again this year. SHS varsity coach Kim Lewis will direct these camps. Sign up early because these camps fill up fast. Cost is $40.00 for this camp.

6-10 Year Olds:  8:30-10:00AM           11-16 Year Olds:  10:00-11:30AM

 

YOUTH GYMNASTICS: July 12th--16th.  Jeff Knapp also directs this popular camp for children ages 7-16. It will be held at the Park St. School gym.  This camp fills up fast so please register early. It includes tumbling, apparatus use, and more.

BASKETBALL-BOYS/GIRLS:  July 12th – 16th   These camps will be held  at SHS for the boys &  girls. The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3-8. SHS girls varsity coach Brodie Ladue will direct  and her players will assist with the girl’s camp.  Varsity coach Pete Peck will assist in running the boys camp.

DANCE CAMP: July 19th-July 23rd.  Kyla Beardsley directs this popular dance camp.  This will be held at Park St. School.  This camp  fills fast so hurry down to sign up!  Visit her website at www.stardancerstudios.com

KARATE: July 26th-July 30th. The Okinawan Karate Academy, under the direction of Sensei Ken Bladyka, will return to offer their popular summer camp.  Bladyka is a licensed instructor and a 7th degree black belt, and his staff of junior black belts are always a “hit” with the campers.  The camp will be held at Park St. School.

WRESTLING CAMP:  Aug. 2nd-6th.   This will be our second annual Wrestling Camp directed by former Springfield High School Champion wrestler Donnie Beebe.  This camp is all about technique, and will help youngsters to unlock some of the secrets of successful wrestling.  Donnie will focus on match strategy, including take downs, reversals, and pinning combinations.  He will also preach the importance and the mind set of having a “winning attitude”.   All participants will also receive a t-shirt.

Grades:  2nd-6th       Cost:  $50.00

 

SPORTS FOR SQUIRTS:  Aug. 9th-13th.  This one-week program is designed to introduce 4, 5 & 6  year old boys and girls to the fundamentals of a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, t-ball, and football. Each day your child will play a different sport. Let your child experiment in a fun non-competitive atmosphere. Each participant will receive a T-shirt. All equipment except for baseball gloves is provided.  Linited to 20 children, first come, first served.

FIELD HOCKEY: Aug. 16th-20th.  Ruth Haskell directs this camp which is open to students in grades 3 to High School. Here’s your chance to improve your skills and get ready for the upcoming season. The camp will be held at the SHS field hockey field and includes a t-shirt.

SPRINGFIELD YOUTH SOCCER CAMP:  Aug.16th - 20th SHS Junior Varsity Coach and former Plymouth State University soccer player Corey Cenate will conduct a camp for boys and girls ages 5-15.  Ages 5-7 will be from 9-10:30AM and 8 and up will go from 9AM-12PM.  The cost for this camp will be $50.00 for 5-7 year olds and $75.00 for ages 8 and up.  This includes a ball and shirt for all campers. 

 

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

 

 

Family Summer Track Meets: The Parks and Recreation Dept. will once again run this popular Summer Track program.  It will be held on Wednesday evenings held at the Springfield High School track, beginning Wednesday, June 23rd.  It will  tentatively run for 8 weeks depending upon interest. Meets are open to all age groups and will start at 6:00 pm., with registration at 5:45. Various events are offered, and ribbons will be awarded. Cost this year will be $1.00 per participant per week. SWIM LESSONS

A variety of swim level lessons are offered including Infant/Toddler Aquatics, Stroke Development and Proficiency, and Advanced Skills, as well as, others. When you register your child consult with the lifeguard staff regarding the appropriate level for your child. Each separate session is 13 days in length for one half-hour each day, not including weekends (Last day being a FUN day!!). The half-hour lessons are offered in the mornings between 10:00-10:30, or 10:30-11:00, and in the evenings between 5:30-6:00, or 6:00-6:30. **These times are subject to change.  Cost is $25.00 per session for each child for Springfield residents, $30.00 for non-residents. Call Parks & Recreation for more information. We will not take registrations by phone.
