Springfield Vermont

A Full Service Town

Springfield Vermont is protected by the Springfield Police Department. They serve approximately 9,100 residents and cover 49 square miles. Each year our police department answers over 5,000 calls for service. Dispatchers at the Emergency Communications Center answer 42,000 calls per year. Springfield PD works with residents to improve our town through community forums and maintaining a facebook page to give weather alerts, notify of school closings, and promote town events.

We are also protected by the Springfield Fire Department. Responding to calls 24/7 they respond to approximately 2,300 requests for service per year. A combination department, they have 50 members with 12 career staff. They work hard to promote public safety and keep our town safe.

Springfield Hospital joins the local police and fire departments in promoting a healthy community. A certified critical access hospital serving communities in Southeastern Vermont and Southwestern New Hampshire for over 100 years! Springfield Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient care, as well as, a 24 hour emergency room, adult day care, and many other specialty services. Recently offices moved to the beautifully renovated 100 River Street to provide outpatient care in one convenient location.

Springfield has education opportunities ranging from pre-school to the collegiate level. The Springfield School District serves 1,500 students in four schools including two elementary schools, a middle, and high school. Springfield loves cheering on our Cosmos in sporting and extracurricular events! Located next to Springfield High School is the Howard Dean Education Center. This 90,000 square ft building is home to The River Valley Technical Center as well as educational partners: Community College of Vermont, Johnson State College, and Vermont Interactive Television to name a few. The River Valley Technical College prepares students to be college and career ready. There are opportunities for high school students to earn post-secondary credit and industry recognized credentials. The Howard Dean Education Center includes a restaurant giving students in the Culinary Program hands on experience but is also available for catering to community groups and business meetings held at the center. State of the art classrooms are also available for student and community use. This center gives a welcoming location for programs to offer the community the opportunity to never stop learning!

Springfield is home to many not-for-profit organizations working to better the life of animals, our families, and the environment. Our award winning Springfield Garden Club keeps the town in bloom from Spring to Fall. The Black River Action Team tends to the Black River that flows through our community. Springfield has a Designated Downtown thanks to the efforts of the community group Springfield on the Move. These are just a few of the organizations that make Springfield a wonderful place to live. If you are interested in volunteering or getting involved give us a call at the Chamber Office!
