My partner went through a really dark period two years ago, and I had no idea what I was doing at first. I kept offering solutions, like suggesting new hobbies or telling them to think positive, which only made them shut down more. Eventually I realized that understanding how to help someone with depression starts with shutting up and actually listening. I spent time reading about supporting a loved one and found practical advice that made things clearer for me, including this page I came across while researching: supporting a loved one. I know it might seem unrelated at first glance, but it helped me think about structured care, consistency, and how daily support really matters. One thing I learned is that routine can be powerful.
