CHAMBER INVITES VOLUNTEERS FOR SPRINGFIELD’S ANNUAL GREEN UP DAY

Join us for the 49th Annual Green Up Day! Spring has sprung! We at the Chamber always look forward to hosting this annual event in Springfield, and with the snow finally melting, we are looking for volunteers to assist us clean up our town after the long winter and spread mulch in the park and garden areas of downtown. Last year, Springfield had over 170 volunteers! This year, our aim is to encourage 200 participants! Please join us and help our town reach this goal! The official green trash bags will be available on the day of the event, as well as for advance pick-up from the Chamber during the week leading up to the event - Tues, Wed, and Thursday, 9:30 to 2:30pm. On Saturday, May 4th, we will be congregating in the People's United Bank parking lot from 8am to noon, and working together to spruce up the neighborhood. Families, friends, and community members will help with raking, picking up litter, and spreading fresh mulch in the gardens.

Please remember to dress appropriately – it is extremely important to wear work gloves, long pants, and proper footwear to protect against ticks and debris along your clean-up journey – and we suggest wearing neon for visibility. Bring rakes, shovels, brooms and any tools that might come in handy for clean-up. Professionals and volunteers will be on call throughout the day to assist you with any questions you may have. Most of all, remember to have fun! You are bettering our town and community by sharing your energy and spirit to assist with maintaining Springfield’s beauty. At the end of the morning, rejoin fellow volunteers at the Peoples United Bank parking lot at noon for a Thank You Cookout!

We’d like to express our thanks to Woodbury Florist for supplying and delivering the mulch, and to VTEL for sponsoring our Green Up Day event. Also thanks to Jake's South Street Marketfor providing the hotdogs and buns for grilling. Our gratitude goes out to the Public Works Department for collecting and properly disposing of all the filled bags. And a shout out to the Springfield Garden Club, Springfield On the Move, Springfield Rotary Club, and all the businesses and organizations that contribute and volunteer with us every year! We appreciate everyone's help in keeping Springfield green and gorgeous. It takes a village!

For more information, please contact the Chamber at 802-885-2779 or email alice@springfieldvt.com to sign up! See you on May 4th!!
