Grist to Gears and Beyond

Do you think of Springfield Vermont, when you hear computer circuitry, race cars, and state-of-the-art medical imaging?  Well, you should!  Right here in Springfield, an evolution in technology and entrepreneurship is underway. 

Our very own Springfield hospital has invested in some of the most advanced medical imaging equipment.  The equipment is so advanced that Dartmouth sends patients to our hospital for diagnosis.

Longtime gear shaper Don Shattuck is working with students from MIT to make precision parts for next-generation race cars.  Grinding gears on his old Fellows equipment is producing precision parts that cannot be achieved with modern computer-driven devices.

ImageTek, another one of the last vestiges of Precision Valley, is expanding its focus.  They have begun printing and assembling Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs).  Not only are they making circuit boards, but they are also installing them into agricultural drones.  Rumor also has it that they are working with Apple Computer to introduce new printing technology.

Phew!  Who knew the old neighborhood still had the spirit and energy of those who farmed the land, milled our fabrics, and shaped the face of modern technology.  This is a very exciting time to be in Springfield Vermont, and part of this new dawn.
