SPRINGFIELD REGIONAL CHAMBER THANKS COMMUNITY FOR SUCCESSFUL GREEN UP DAY

springfieldrcoc

The weather cooperated beautifully for this year’s Green Up Day, and the 49th Annual event was a great success! The Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce was joined on Saturday, May 4th by more than 100 community members helping to Green Up Springfield and surrounding areas. In addition to the people who came out that day, we provided bags to another 25+ volunteers during the week leading up to the event, for a total of more than 125 local participants. We distributed hundreds of bags for trash pickup. Big thank you to all the folks that joined us from Claremont Savings Bank, Springfield Rotary Club, Springfield On the Move, HCRS, student volunteers from Springfield High School, and many more! Community volunteers and Chamber members spent the warm and (thankfully, rainless!) morning picking up litter, raking, and spreading mulch in downtown greenspaces as well as tackling neighborhoods all around town. We’d like to express our gratitude to VTEL for sponsoring the event, and we appreciate Woodbury Florist for delivering the mulch. Following hours of hard work picking up trash, volunteers enjoyed a Thank You Cookout with delicious hot dogs donated by Jakes South Street Market. Flying Crow offered free coffees to Green Up participants, and volunteers so inclined (ages 21+) received $1 off their first beer at Trout River that afternoon. Thank you to Springfield Public Works for picking up all the bags and supporting the event. Our business partners and community members made this a day to remember. See you next year!
